Remembering our colleague, Malcolm Gibb

Thanks to funding from the Jo Li Trust, Open Door Counselling has been able to honour a much loved and well-respected friend and colleague, Malcolm Gibb (1950-2015), naming one of our counselling rooms and creating a small library in his name.

Malcolm managed Open Door Counselling in the 1980s and 90s. He was an inspirational leader who navigated the service through difficult and challenging times. He is well remembered for his tireless support, making himself available at all times, sharing his wealth and breadth of counselling knowledge and beyond.

An activist within the city of Birmingham, championing gay rights and creating a platform which demanded equal rights, as well as establishing the first gay community centre in the UK.

Having accessed counselling himself during his university life he described it as 'extremely helpful' and of it said '(I) began to accept myself more, it changed my self esteem'.

The legacy of Malcolm lives on at Open Door, and his memory will be honoured by our counsellors and the clients who share so much of themselves.

Open Door Counselling would like to thank the Jo Li Trust for their funding contribution towards our work over a 5 year period.
